Topic: PC crash problem Posted: December 16 2012 at 10:58am |
I've been having problems with my pc for the last few weeks, it will randomly reboot or the screen will freeze or fuzz and I have to hit the power button to reboot. This could happen twice a day or maybe not happen for a week.
I'm thinking its a driver issue but I have the latest drivers for my ATI Radeon 5800 card so any ideas on a fix? |

I am going for overheating of your graphics card. certainly over heating of some sort. Shut down of the PC is a failsafe of frying it.
Open it up and give tower a good clean, always easier to clean the graphic card on its own. Blowing away all dust. Make sure your PCI-E slot is also free of dust and your getting clean contacts. run some tempreture programs to monitor your performance. No idea what ATI use as i have always had nvidia. Might be worth getting a CPU monitor as well That one is dead easy and will monitor all your cores. I always run my cards on stock and never muck around with overclocking or changing fan speeds, so nothing about that i am affraid. 99% will be your card mate good luck |

if its simply the screen going black and then the vid drivers reset and your desktop\game comes back....vid card overheating, manually crank up the fan and it will solve that problem. altho the louder fan might bother you.
you might find the fan is full of dust, clean, but ive noticed sometimes the fan no longer increases automatically. hence the manual increase in speed. If its a complete shutdown and reboot to desktop, i would suggest having your power supply checked. if its a bad power supply its shutting down to prevent damage to your hardware. and it can lead to a total loss of your hardware. better to get a new power supply if needed than to have to replace fried hard drives, mobo, etc etc if its overloading. Ok, I have cleaned all the dust from the tower and manually raised the level of my fans by 10%, also uninstalled and re-installed display drivers - so far so good no crashing for the last 24 hours anyway.
Thanks guys |
