My thoughts on that SSD is for the price you will come out cheaper using your old drive and a new (smaller) SSD in raid 0. Put your OS and games on Small SSD and everything else on Giant cheap HDD. Then you can spend the money saved on vid card or processor.

90Gb SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233204

And then 2 HDDs in raid 1 for data protection.

Hey Erich I am using 132gb of my 480gb SSD but I have a hell of a lot of programs on it.  I think 90 would be a minimum, 120 would be better.  Love RAID 1, our NAS is set up as RAID 1 and we love it.  I suggest you spend a little more for the HD and get the Enterprise class disks, with 5 year warranty.  As I recall, Western Digital does not warrant their greens, blues, or blacks if they are part of a RAID.  May want to check on that.  I like the way you are thinking, though.  I did hear the HD's are going up fast in price as the factories in Thailand are flooded so there is a shortage.

Oh forgot, yes, SATA III for your SSD, definitely.

No kidding, Cliff. I just looked at Newegg, and a drive my brother got for $150 (3 TB on sale) is now $400... I'm sitting tight. I just snagged that drive for 180 at Amazon, PM me for link to it if you want.

Also. HOLY sh*t, CLIFF! 480GB SSD!?!?!?Censored

Yeah, I saw the prices, wow.  Luckily I have a spare 320Gb harddrive sitting around not getting used.  Thats all I need for a data disk for now.  Can upgrade to a 2-disk raid later on.

I don't think the SSD prices are going up as fast as the platter disks.  Dan, I have a pair of 240gb ESATA III SSD's in RAID 0.  This damn computer reboots in seconds even with all the software I have on it!  I have 19 icons in the system tray...   I know  too many....  but RAM is cheap!

Erich I will look around this weekend but I might have a disk I can send you to backup to until prices come down.

I'm ok on the HDD.  I forgot that I bought a new one for a computer for work that I am building.  That build is on hold until I get a new motherboard and processor.  So in the mean time, I have a Western Digital enterprise edition HDD at my disposal.

I'm just wondering if I should what on the SSD for a sale or purchase it now in case theres a run on SSDs.

I would bet on a run on SSD's, but how much the prices will change... ??Wacko I actually think that will be okay for this month, and I plan on keeping an eye open for a good deal. I'll share if / when. I'm thinking I want a 120GB or bigger, and I'm honestly hoping to snag one for under $150. I got my 60GB for 120 after rebate in March, 2010.

Call me paranoid, but until the technology is older, I'm considering only keeping SSD's as critical drives for 2.5 years tops, and really 2 years if I can manage it.

good lord, you would pay about 10k in british pounds for all that across here, prices in the uk are over double that of the usa not including the exchange rate which is double again!  I am hoping god looks down on me and gives me a crappy quad core system some time in the future, not asking for much lord.     ohhh let me find a q6000 quad processor on ebay for 99p soon!
