Topic: Most Fcked up computer issue ive ever seen... Posted: September 15 2010 at 6:15pm |
Ok so I built a computer at work for the owner and all the sudden it started having a random shut down problem. He explained to me that he had went to this website www.topqualitystraw.com and that his computer shut down instantly. After that he never went back but his computer would just drop power and instant shutdown randomly. This is the same computer set up that I have at the house and after I went through everything (power supply, virus, malware, spyware, switching multiple parts with my computer) the problem still occured. So I decided to go to the website on my computer to attempt to see what was going on... Upon visiting the site I was greeted with a popup that said this site uses java upon which I clicked ok. Upon clicking Ok my computer shut down instantly and is now dropping power randomly... I know a wipe would more than likely solve the problem on both computers which I plan on doing but I cant not understand what in the hell would be causing this which is why I am posting the question to see if anyone has any idea... I DO NOT recommend visiting the site because I don't want anyone else to end up with the same issue. FYI I am running 64bit windows 7 professional and the CPU at the office is running 32bit windows 7 professional. Any thoughts on what this is? I have run AVG, Symantec, malwarebytes, trend micro and have nothing as far as there concered so if it is a virus I have no idea how to atck it!!

all i could find on the subject...............
clean the registry of your system, as computer shuts down randomly even if it is overheated. Thus, it is definitely an ideal thing that all the corrupt and extra entries in the registry are removed so that the computer will not become over heated at all. A registry cleaner can enable you to clean those corrupt and extra registry files which always lead to causing overheating. In that case, the computer should not have the shutting down issue anymore.

There was an older virus that tricked your system into thinking it was overheating, initiating an automatic shutdown. Check and see what your temps are with windows running. Aside from that, I am at a loss. Make sure your virus definitions are current. "Combo Fix" might help. Go to their forum and post your troubles. Someone will help you out, requesting scan reports, etc., and will get you headed in the right direction. (disclaimer: do *not* use combo fix unless under the direction of an experience user) http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix |

I will just plan on a good ole fashion reformat.... Just had never heard of virus, malware, etc... actually causing your computer to power off and it has just peaked my intrest at this point. I can back up files and have the system reformatted and back up much quicker than I will be able to get this corrected by other means.

been busy today but we are about to try infecting a win7 32bit pc. i am pretty sure this is the tdl3 rootkit. if so i will also try to infect a 64bit os. if it works ill try rebuilding the mbr since that is where the infected code goes. will try to post more tomorrow.

Sweet friggin deal. I'll be waiting for an update! I've been watching this post, but frankly I had nothing to add that wasn't said :) Good luck to all. Oh, and I kinda chuckled when I saw Dath posted the evil link... it's like "This tastes like $hit! Try it!"... haha |
