bullet Topic: Teamspeak 3 - Setup tips
    Posted: February 11 2010 at 12:38pm
This thread is a work in progress, keep checking back.  If you have any tips or issues let me know via PM, I'll answer any questions here.

Sounds and Notifications - Text to Speech (voice notifications)

TS3 has a 'text to speech' sound pack you can enable.  It will say the name of the person who enters your channel, or the name of the channel you switch to, or get moved to. Nobody will be able to sneak into your channel with this sound pack enabled.  Go to "Settings" and then "Options".  On the left column choose "Notifications".  Toward the middle top theres a button with a drop down arows "Sound Pack: Default Soundpack" click the arrows and select "Default Text To Speech".  Click ok and Speech notifications are now enabled.

- Limiting what notifications you hear

Some voice notifications can get to be a bit much.  If you don't want to listen to people joining and leaving other channels then your own find the section titled 'Channel Subscriptions'.  In the Notifications section of the Options menu (see above to get there) you can configure what notifications you wish to hear.  For example, if you do not want to hear when someone 'pokes' you then disable that notification by expanding the "Other" drop down item (click the + symbol to the left of 'Other') and deselect 'Received poke'.  Do this for any other notification you wish to disable.

Channel Subscriptions - Limit Notifications of those entering/leaving *other* channels

By default you are subscribed to all channels.  This means you see who is in each and every channel and receive notification of who enters and leaves that channel.  This is handy when you first connect, but can be annoying when you are in a game and constantly hear all of the notifications for the other channels.  One way to set this up is to unsubscribe from all channels and use a one-click view of who is connected so you know where everyone is.  To do this go to "Settings" and then "Options" and from the left column select "Application".  In the middle of the window find the "Subscribe" section and select "Subscribe to current and previously subscribed channels" and click ok.  Back in your TS3 window, in the channels list at the top right-click on "OBC Teamspeak Server" and select "Unsunscribe from All Channels".  At this point if anyone was in a different channel you should have seen them disappear.  To view all connected clients in all channels click on the eye-ball icon in your TS3 window (probably located just below the "Permissions" menu item), while doing this you will hear notifications for all channels.  When you are done viewing the channels click it again to discontinue and you will not hear notifications for any other channels except your own and those that you manually subscribe to.

- Subscribing to channels

If you are unsubscribed to all channels using the example above but wish to get notifications of who is entering/leaving  a particular channel you can subscribe to it.  Right-click the channel you wish to follow and choose "Subscribe to channel".  The channel clients will always be in view and you will get notifications from that channel.  This is perfect if you are in an Open Chat channel waiting for your friends to fire up a game of Call of Duty, but you don't want to hear all of the other channel notifications.
