How to Create a Bind

A brief note on Bind Etiquette: Using the guide on Text Colors and Special Text Codes you can create many unique binds. But please know that excessive scrolling (spamming or flooding) the lobby (chat section) with binds may get you kicked off of the server, or at the very least, muted. Please have some respect for the other players who are trying to communicate with each other so that their messages can be seen too. Also keep in mind that sometimes saying "nice shot" or even simply "ns" has more meaning to that player than a bind that says "-=GrEaT sHoT *O.B.C* CONAN*=-

Binds are useful to issue console commands or, more commonly, to say preset phrases by pressing a single key.

For example, you may want to tell your teammates that you have the flag and need cover but you don't have time to stop and type.  Another example is taking a screenshot.  Both of these examples will be shown below.

To create a bind you need to first bring down the console by pressing the ~ key, it's located above the TAB and below the ESC keys.  Next you need to enter the command to create the bind:

/bind x say_team I have the Flag!  Cover me!

Lets examine each part of this command:

/bind The bind command, lets the program know you want a specific key to perform a specific function.
x The key we want to perform the action, so when you are in the game press x to perform the action
say_team The action you want performed, in the this case you want to say something to your team.
I have the Flag! Cover me! The message you want to say.

To use a bind to take a screenshot you would type this command in the console:

/bind F4 screenshot

F4 To bind to the F-keys you simply type F then 4, or whichever number you prefer. F1 and F2 are already used for voting.
screenshot Takes a JPEG snapshot of the screen and stores it in a folder.  In my case they are located at: C:\Program Files\Soldier of Fortune II - Double Helix\MDX\screenshots
